Other times, being a single parent left me feeling exhausted and powerless, which affected my ability to concentrate at work. Fatigue and lack of energy can often stem from underlying issues, like burnout or even something as simple as vitamin D deficiency. I want to make it clear here that we all have different stories and life phases. I’ve been raising three kids solo since 2017 while holding a full-time tech job. In my case, burnout and vitamin D deficiency arose from a combination of factors, compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic. A lot has changed, from how I work and handle my solo caregiver responsibilities to my finances. Through it all, I’ve learned that work and life need to coexist in harmony for me, and maintaining that balance is vital. However, with the right approach, these issues can be overcome. Once you have identified the companies, you need to do your research. Visit their websites and learn more about what they are offering. Look for reviews and comments from employees who are parents. This will give you an idea of what it's like to work for the company as a single parent. Finally, reach out to your LinkedIn network and check if anyone you know is a parent. Don't be shy to send them a message asking more about their experience with a family-friendly policy from a company they work for. You can also attend networking events and meet other parents who work for family-friendly companies.
